Lite Range lenses come with three protective coating options designed to improve clarity, durability and comfort for everyday wear. Each coating provides a different level of protection, helping your lenses stay cleaner for longer while improving visual comfort and reducing glare.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through each coating type to help you understand their differences and choose the right one for your lenses.
- HMC
- Satin + UV
- Satin + Blue.

What is HMC for Lite Range lenses?
HMC, which stands for Hard Multi Coat, is the standard (and complementary) coating included with every Lite Range lens. It’s a durable, all-round protective finish that helps your lenses resist daily wear while keeping your vision clear.
Key features and benefits of HMC
Smudge resistance – helps keep your lenses stay clean and makes them easy to maintain.
Water repellent – rain and splashes glide off the surface.
Anti-reflection – reduces glare from artificial lighting and digital screens.
Scratch-resistance – helps protect your lenses from minor abrasions.
Is HMC for me?
HMC is a reliable entry-level coating if you want clear, low-maintenance lenses without any additional upgrades. It’s ideal for daily glasses wearers who spend most of their time indoors, use screens occasionally, or want dependable, easy-to-clean lenses that can handle everyday life.

What is Satin + UV for Lite Range lenses?
Satin + UV builds upon the foundation of HMC but with enhanced protection and durability. It uses advanced coating technology to deliver clearer vision while protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays.
This coating is created using ionic bonding for added flexibility, helping to prevent cracking and peeling. It also includes Enhanced Scratch Guard Technology, improving the lens surface hardness and ensuring the coating lasts longer.
Key features and benefits of Satin + UV
UV protection – blocks harmful ultraviolet light from both the front and rear lens surfaces.
Anti-static – repels dust and particles for clearer vision.
Smudge resistance – easy to clean and maintain.
Water repellent – minimises water marks and streaks.
Anti-reflection – enhances visual comfort and reduces glare.
Scratch-resistance – adds long-term durability and toughness.
Is Satin + UV for me?
Satin + UV is ideal if you spend a lot of time outdoors or near bright natural light. It offers ten times more UV protection than the naked eye, making it a strong choice for people who commute, walk, or cycle regularly. Even on cloudy days, it provides reliable eye protection against harmful rays that contribute to long-term eye strain and fatigue.

What is Satin + Blue for Lite Range lenses?
Satin + Blue offers all the same additional benefits as Satin + UV but with the added advantage of filtering blue-violet light from digital screens. It’s specifically designed for people who spend long hours on computers, tablets and smartphones.
Prolonged screen time can contribute to digital eye strain (also known as computer vision syndrome) with symptoms such as tired eyes, headaches and light sensitivity. UV protection – shields against harmful ultraviolet light.
Anti-static – helps keep lenses dust-free.
Smudge resistance – simple to clean.
Water repellent – prevents marks and residue.

Do these coatings change how my lenses look?
Each coating is optically clear, though HMC can produce green reflections whilst Satin + Blue creates blue reflections under certain light conditions.
Are the coatings applied to both sides of the lens?
Yes. All Lite Range coatings are applied to both the front and back lens surfaces for complete protection. This aids the transmission of light for optimal visual acuity and to reduce reflections across your lenses.
Can I clean these lenses normally?
Yes. For light cleaning, it's best to use your complimentary Banton Frameworks microfibre lens cloth.
