Can I pay with my American health insurance?

Yes - Banton Frameworks have partnered with Gale to allow you to use your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) when buying prescription spectacles or prescription sunglasses on our website.

If you're based in the US and wish to use your healthcare insurance to purchase your prescription spectacles or prescription sunglasses from us, you have two options available.

1. You can pay directly with your HSA/FSA payment card at checkout.

2. You can pay with your regular credit/debit card and use your itemised receipt to request reimbursement from your plan administrator.

Scroll below to see how it works.

How to order your new glasses with HSA/FSA

#1 Select your frame & lenses

First, select your spectacle or sunglasses frame. Proceed through the lens menu to customise your prescription lenses before heading to checkout when you're ready to pay. (Your lenses must be prescription in order to be eligible for HSA/FSA.)

#2 Select ‘Pay with HSA/FSA’

At checkout, select “Pay with FSA or HSA” (instead of Credit Card, PayPal etc) so you can use your FSA or HSA benefit.

Even if you don't have a HSA/FSA payment card, continue with your purchase via Gale using your regular credit or debit card. This is what enables your automatic documents for step 3 (further below).

#3 Wait for your documents

Within 24 hours of your purchase, Gale will automatically send you a Letter of Medical Necessity (LOMN) and a fully itemised receipt. (We recommend that you keep these documents for your records in case your HSA/FSA provider or the IRS requires additional documentation.)

If you have any questions, please reach out to us.

Ordering frame + lenses together

Pre-fit is when you choose to have your new spectacles or sunglasses fitted with your prescription lenses before they are shipped to you. This means you are ordering your frame and lenses at the same time which makes your entire purchase eligible for your HSA/FSA provider to cover.

Ordering lenses only

Home try-on is when your new spectacles or sunglasses are shipped to you without your prescription lenses so you can try the frame at home first. This means you can purchase your prescription lenses separately afterwards. By choosing home try-on, only your lenses will be eligible for your HSA/FSA provider to cover.

HSA/FSA FAQs

What is Gale and what is their relationship with Banton Frameworks?

Gale (Gale Payments, Inc.) is a payment platform that enables us to accept Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) cards at checkout.

This platform allows you to use your HSA or FSA payment card to buy prescription spectacles or prescription sunglasses with pre-tax dollars, resulting in a percentage of savings depending on your tax bracket.

How do I pay with my HSA/FSA card?

First, select your desired spectacle or sunglasses frame. Proceed through the lens menu to customise your prescription lenses before heading to checkout when you're ready to pay. (Your lenses must be prescription in order to be eligible for HSA/FSA.)

At checkout, select “Pay with HSA/FSA” as your payment option. Enter your HSA or FSA payment card details and complete checkout as usual. If you don't have a HSA/FSA payment card, continue with your purchase via Gale using your regular credit or debit card. This is what enables your automatic documents

If you don't see the Gale option, you may be in Shop Pay and should select “checkout as guest” to view more payment methods.

What if I don't have my HSA/FSA card available?

Still choose “Pay with HSA/FSA” as your payment method. Enter your regular credit or debit card information and Gale will email you an itemised receipt which you can then submit to your provider for reimbursement.

Why can't I see Gale as a payment method?

*If you were prompted to enter a verification code when logging in or at checkout, you're likely using Shop Pay.

Shop Pay is Shopify’s express checkout option that lets you use your saved profile information across Shopify-powered stores. It speeds up checkout by skipping most of the standard steps.

To use your HSA/FSA with Gale;

1.    On the Shop Pay screen, scroll to the bottom.
2.    Select “Check out as guest.”
3.    This redirects you to the standard checkout, where “Pay with HSA/FSA” appears as a payment option.

Why is my HSA/FSA card being declined?

HSA/FSA cards are debit cards, and the most common reason for declines is insufficient funds. Reach out to your HSA/FSA administrator to confirm your available balance.

My HSA/FSA provider requires more information than what’s on my itemised receipt

Please forward the request from your HSA/FSA to hello@bantonframeworks.co.uk, and we’ll work with the Gale team to issue you with a new receipt.

I didn't receive an email from Gale with my itemised receipt and/or Letter of Medical Necessity. What should I do?

Please check your spam folder, as emails from Gale can sometimes be filtered. If you still can't find it, visit withgale.com/contact and provide them with the email address associated with your order.

Can I use multiple HAS/FSA cards to pay?

No, using multiple HSA/FSA cards isn’t supported. If one HSA or FSA account doesn’t have enough funds, you can enter a regular credit card on the Gale checkout page and then submit the receipt and Letter of Medical Necessity for reimbursement.

Are sales tax expenses covered by HSA/FSA funds, or are they treated separately?

Sales tax for eligible items is also covered by HSA/FSA funds. If you have a split cart, the tax will be divided among the cards based on the eligible items.

Letter of Medical Necessity FAQs

What is a Letter of Medical Necessity?

A Letter of Medical Necessity (LOMN) is essentially a medical/doctor’s note stating that you are purchasing an item (your glasses) to correct your vision.

Why do I need to provide Banton Frameworks with health information?

To qualify to use your HSA or FSA card for Banton Frameworks eyewear, the IRS requires a Letter of Medical Necessity. Banton Frameworks has partnered with Gale to provide an asynchronous telehealth review as part of checkout. Within 24 hours of your purchase, Gale will email you the itemised receipt and supporting documentation.

Do I need to do anything with my Letter of Medical Necessity?

Please retain your LOMN for at least three years in the event of an IRS audit of your HSA or FSA account. Occasionally, FSA administrators may also ask to see the letter to confirm purchase eligibility.

What if I entered the wrong information and need to get an updated letter?

Please email withgale.com/contact and Gale will reach out to their telehealth team to reprocess and send your corrected Letter of Medical Necessity (LOMN).

The date of my LOMN is different from my receipt's date.

As Banton Frameworks is based in the UK, this may be a time zone issue. Contact us so we can reach out to Gale and see whether the letter can be reissued with the corrected date.

My FSA says I need further details added to my LOMN for approval.

Generally, one-off custom requests cannot be guaranteed, but we can reach out to Gale to see whether your request can be accommodated.

I did not receive an itemised receipt and/or LOMN from Gale. What should I do?

Please check your spam folder first. If the email still isn’t there, visit withgale.com/contact and let them know which email address you used for the order.

Reimbursement FAQs

What if my HSA/FSA claim is denied?

Check with your HSA/FSA provider before purchase whenever possible to confirm eligibility. If you believe your claim was wrongly denied, send any response from your provider to us so it can be shared with Gale for guidance on next steps. Employer-sponsored FSAs can set stricter rules than the IRS, so eligibility can vary by plan.

Can I purchase a product now and apply to HSA/FSA reimbursement in the next calendar year?

That depends on the policy of your specific HSA/FSA provider. Most HSA/FSA administrators require that the purchase be made during the period of coverage, so purchases for this year’s plan generally need to be made and submitted within that same coverage window.

Can I use a previous (non-Gale purchase) to apply for HSA/FSA reimbursement?

Unfortunately, it isn’t possible to apply for reimbursement for purchases made without using Gale to receive an itemized receipt.

For Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), you can use your Gale itemized receipt for reimbursement any time after a purchase, even many years later.

For Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), most plans require that the purchase was made during the same calendar year as the active FSA coverage, although some providers offer a short grace period for receipt submission.
