Hi, I'm Jamie.
And I have a food addiction.
Lucy and I are both obsessed.
If you can’t find us making frames, you’ll definitely catch us cooking.
Which is why the layout of our new workshop is just like a kitchen, because well, they’re really quite similar and close to our hearts.
Here’s a plan drawing 👇

Pretty but strong
The past few weeks, Lucy has fallen down the rabbit hole of kitchen design.
I’ve never seen her so happy.
Our Instagram account thinks we’re renovating a house, so we’re getting hammered with adverts for countertops, hinges and handles.
Which is actually quite helpful.
See, Lucy wants the look of a kitchen, but our workbenches need to be strong enough to hold our heavy machinery.
Kettles don’t weigh 130kgs.
So to get the balance right, we’re going to build heavy duty plinths, covered with kitchen-worthy panels. A wolf in sheep's clothing, so to speak.

Details matter
Our current workshop is a patchwork quilt.
We’ve made every mistake in the book, having rebuilt the workbenches several times over. The more machines we acquired, the heavier the load.
So this time around, we’ve got what we hope is a ‘future proof’ plan for the new workbenches and handles.
38x80mm CLS timber carcass
18mm veneered plywood panels
25mm Corian countertop
Black knurled handles
Sorta like this...

When you starting?
Next week, hopefully.
Despite all the sexy exciting stuff, I’ve failed to mention the small task of moving all of our equipment from our shed (at Banton) to the Kodak building (in Whiteinch).
Oh, and then there’s the stairs.
The goods lift at the Kodak building isn’t operational, so we’ll have to find a way to carry all our tools up to the main factory floor.
Our heaviest machine weighs 180kgs (seen below) so I think we’ll dismantle it into separate pieces before we move.
