_ 01 Project Introduction
Mamnick is a modern bespoke clothing and accessories brand, created by the young Sheffield entrepreneur Thom Barnett.
Homage to his area of upbringing, Thom openly states his passionionate inspiration from the surrounding mountains of the peak district. Nestled within the Derbyshire dales, the road on which he grew up, pronounced ‘Mam’-‘Nick’, elevates you into the scenic Derbyshire peaks of ‘Mam-Tor’. Otherwise referred to as the ‘shaking mountain’, these peaks signify the Mamnick logo. On his many weekend cycle rides, Thom frequents this picturesque environment which overlooks the very area where Mamnick’s manufacture takes place.
“Thom created Mamnick in 2012, when he realised that he could not find the type and quality of shirt, that he wanted to buy; he then went about designing and creating his own clothing range. Thom’s brand displayed on his website is a modern, lean, subtle and unique, he manages the business tightly and aims to provide his much valued and enthusiastic customers with the best possible product quality and service.
Each premium manufactured item has been carefully designed and created with thought for the young modern person, using the highest quality materials (cashmere/wool/cotton/leather/stainless steel etc). The Mamnick ethos is establishing relatively short production runs, to ensure that his product lines reflect today’s fashion. Some accessories are numbered on a limited run (a throwback to his artist heritage).
As a member of the very talented and burgeoning creative set in Sheffield, fine detailed design and the emphasis on production quality in all products is paramount. Thom Barnett is also passionate about the local area, the industrial cutlery and steel manufacturing heritage of Sheffield coupled with the natural countryside of the adjacent Derbyshire Dales, drives the direction of his products. His clothing products are individually named after distinct locations in the surrounding area, providing a wonderfully northern rural background to the range.”
Serene? Yes. Organically inspired? Definitely, but there is a functionality to Mamnick’s product inventory that equals its idyllic setting. It was this functionality that led us to work alongside such a unique and creative brand.
Comparitively, Mamnick and we uphold strong affiliation in support of local manufacturing processes to each of our operative areas; a constant focus seen via both of our social channels. On inspection, the array of steel instruments offered by Mamnick alone, showcase Thom’s pride for Sheffield’s synonymous steel industry. There is perhaps no better example of this than the increasingly famous stainless steel Mamnick chip fork. A quintessentially British utensil designed and produced from local ore, no less. Quirky yet functional, the chip fork has also been the recent topic of copyright controversy between Mamnick and a large, well known UK design house. Imitation is indeed flattery, however the chip fork is reportedly fantastic and removes the question of any consideration for its high street impersonators.
Further afield, away from local steel works and design right disagreements, Mamnick offers more than just steel chip forks or commute clips. In conjunction with ‘Mamnick Tokyo’, their Japanese counterpart, each operative produce and interchange an eclectic mixture of clothing and accessories. It’s for this reason that Mamnick is indeed a slightly peculiar brand. A brand with a fascinating creative endeavour that truly lives up to its resonant ethos;
